When I was 14 years old I was fired from a golf course grounds crew for shattering to pieces their brand new sign on hole number six with a Cushman Hauler Cart loaded with about a ton of sod and dirt that got away from me. That is a long very funny story for a different time but leads me to my point. The very next day my father walked me onto my uncle Bobbies building site and got me my first construction job. I learned early that a job well done is the only way a job can be finished. I thoroughly botched my first task of supporting trusses with hangars (a very simple task in retrospect but not that easy for me then I guess) and had to take them all down and start again. Over the last 22 years I have improved my skills but have always remembered that lesson. I continued to work summers and weekends for my Uncle all through high school and on college breaks.
In college at Iowa State University I started a rock band with my business partner and friend Jason Walsmith for fun. Well lets not kid anyone, for fun but also to meet some ladies. Our little group grew from a couple of dudes with weird hair playing weekends in Ames, IA into a full time enterprise with a tour bus, nine players and crew on the road, managers, agents, accountants, designers, web masters, merchandisers, producers, engineers, and more all working together to help our band The Nadas tour all over North America for the past 18 years playing thousands of shows to hundreds of thousands of people. I continued to remodel and build throughout this time. We continue to play today but not at the pace we used to. Please check out the music at www.thenadas.com
Today both Jason and I have succeeded in finding the aforementioned "ladies" and have made them our wives. We each have kids and houses and pets and responibilities. This is a relatively new concept even though if you have done the math you can figure out how old I am and that I should know better! :) Because of this we have chosen to limit ourselves to around 80-100 shows a year which frees up our work weeks to persue other loves and passions.
